Sunday Lunch and Worship Meetings

Come join us for our lunch meetings at 11:30 to 2:00 on Sundays upstairs in Sterling Hall.  Food and drinks provided:

  • October 4 - No Lunch Meeting
  • October 11 - Meeting
  • October 18 - Meeting - Taco Sunday
  • October 25 - No Lunch Meeting

On Taco Sundays:

7:00 a.m. time to get tacos in the warmers.
We will not attend the 9:30 a.m. service, but will get all the tacos made and all the kitchen cleaned except for the dirty dishes.
We will sell until 10:45 a.m. to take a Sunday School break.
After Sunday School we will attend the 11:30 a.m. service and sit together as a group.
Since you have already eaten a bunch of tacos, lunch will be delayed on Taco Sunday until 12:30 p.m.
This allows us to experience the music at the 11:30 a.m. service once a month and get the kitchen all cleaned up.

Shepherd's Nook Changeover - October 10th
It is that fun time of the year again when we are called on to help the ladies at the Shepherd’s Nook located next to Kroger’s on FM 518 & FM 2351 to change all the summer clothes on the racks to winter fashion. We receive great praise when we help with this service project because it is quite a job to pull off all the old clothes, bag them, and stack them in the shed to be picked up by Purple Heart.

The fun part of this activity is picking out any really “tacky” clothing to be stored in the EYC attic at Good Shepherd for our “Tacky Dance” at Wessendorff next summer. The Nook is happy to give us these items for free!  Those of you who will need community service hours this year at school either for clubs or because you were late to class too many times, can ask for a signed sheet describing your hours donated.  Believe me! This will come in handy at some point.  You will also be asked to get boxed down from the attic and hang winter clothes. This helps the ladies a whole lot as they appreciate your help with heavy boxes.

October 10,show up at the Nook at 10:00 a.m. You will work until 1:00 p.m. when your parents will pick you up at the Nook.  There is no cost for this important service project. Please help!
Mall Scavenger Hunt October 17th
On Saturday, Oct. 17, come to Baybrook Mall at noon and meet in the Food Court with your $7 or money for lunch. You will break into teams after you eat lunch and head out to hunt some very unusual items you will find on the list you will be given.
You will have an hour and a half to go from store to store asking for the items on your list such as a red rubber band, a penny from 1960, a yellow balloon , etc.

As you encounter people in stores and the mall you will have the opportunity to tell them where you go to church.  We will meet back in the Food Court at 2:30 p.m. to share our stories. Your parents can pick you up at the entrance to Macy’s closest to Bay Area Blvd. at 3:00 p.m.
Texas Renaissance Festival on Halloween!
We have gone to the Texas Renaissance Festival many times in the past, but we have never gone on Halloween. Well, this year we are!

So, on Saturday, October 31st, come to Good Shepherd at 9:00 a.m. in your costume. There will be a quick costume contest as E.Y.C. will give the winner $10 to spend at the Festival for food or drink. I suggest you bring a light jacket in case the weather turns cool and it is also good to bring an empty water bottle or sports bottle as you will get thirsty and your money will not hold out if you have to buy a lot of drinks.

If you had me purchase your ticket in September, the cost to you is only $15. Then you have to bring money for any food and/or drinks you need during the day. If you did not have me purchase you a ticket in September, the cost to you is $23 which is the gate price.

If you bring a friend and prepurchased the ticket through me in September, their cost is $16. If the ticket is purchased at the gate, it is the same $23 as before. I will need adult drivers to help and their fee is “free” if they transport kids for me. You will need to fill out a permission form when your parents drop you off at the church. Have your parents pick you up at Good Shepherd at 8:30 p.m. We will call them if we are running late.  Let’s all go and have a boo time!

Sign Up Now for the August Happening and YES!

Confirmation Classes & Sunday School

The classes teach you all about the core beliefs of the Episcopal church. It prepares you to make your own personal decision to become a full member of the Episcopal Church. If you are twelve years old or above and want to know more about the classes and why would it be important for you at this stage of your walk with Christ to consider taking these classes, talk with Fr. Jim or Fr. Bob.

There are many good Sunday School teachers for youth each Sunday and many of you are not taking advantage of these classes. Christian education is important to  help you form your personal beliefs. You have the opportunity to ask questions about anything in the Bible that may be confusing. Study and learning strengthens your beliefs and when a time comes that you need that belief in hard times, you will find that it is invaluable. Give Sunday School another try!
