The Shepherd's Nook
The Shepherd's Nook is a thrift shop located at 201 N. Friendswood Drive (FM 518) next to Kroger’s. Founded by the Episcopal Church Women of Good Shepherd and staffed solely by volunteers, The Nook receives donations from the community, and re-sells these clothing and household items at heavily discounted prices. All of the proceeds from The Nook are distributed either to local nonprofit organizations (such as the Laura Recovery Center, the Adult Reading Center, Meals-on-Wheels, Friendswood EMS, etc.), or to outreach ministries within the church (such as Honduras Mission school uniforms). We also provide free clothing and housewares to clients referred from community service agencies such as Christian Helping Hands. We work Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and we are always in need of volunteers. For more information, please contact Board chairman Candy Brugger
The Nook is always looking for new volunteers. If you work a normal work week, perhaps you would like to work occasionally on Saturday. If you work an abnormal work week or are not working, consider helping on Mondays when the sorting goes on or Tuesday or Thursday when the Nook is open. Working usually consists of ringing up the sales and bagging items. Two people work these jobs while the shop is open. Any time you can donate will be greatly appreciated.

Habitat for Humanity
Bay Area HFH
Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
The Habitat for Humanity International web site contains more information on Habitat's history, mission, volunteer opportunities and contact information for other Habitat affiliates around the world.
For more information on Good Shepherd's involvement with HHI, contact Larry Oldroyd at 281-996-5545
is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
